Design

  1. GUI.  A graphical user interface allows the simulated process to be created and configured.

    This shows a model of a wood pellet drying plant. It has custom designed flowers which are not available in the open source code.  How to add a new kind of flower

  2. Add flower by right clicking on empty background. Popup menu will offer choice of flower type: generic, pump, vessel, etc.  

  3. Select a flower by left clicking on it. Selected flower will be highlighted in red.

  4. Move a flower by dragging it with the left button pressed. Connected pipes will be dragged along.
  5. Popup flower context menu by right clicking on the flower.

  6. Flower context : Rename.  Pops up a simple editor to change the name of the flower.

  7. Flower context : Configure. Pops up a property grid to show and edit parameter values for flower.

  8. Flower context: Pipe.  Connect two flowers with a pipe. Select the source flower. Choose destination by right clicking on it, selecting 'Pipe' from context menu.

  9. Flower Context : Pipe2.  If the source flower has two outputs, then an additional option will appear in the menu to allow choosing between the ports.

  10. Flower context : Plot.  Chart appears in background showing plot of simulation results against time for selected flower.

  11. Flower context : Delete.  Deletes the selected flower and all pipes connected to it.

  12. Pipe bend.  A pipe bend is a small flower with no functionality ( the simulator engine ignores it ) that allows pipes to bend around obstructions to produce a more comprehensible layout of the vase.

  13. Write/Read graphviz dot formatted files

  14. Simulate

  15. Set simulation options. Click menu choice "Simulate | Options". A property grid will pop up.

  16. Time simulation option. The simulation will stop when the clock reaches this time.

  17. Task/Flow qualities.  Enter the names of the qualities the simulation will use to model the tasks or flows that move between flowers.

  18. Simulate model by clicking menu item Simulate | Run. The TERN simulation engine will be invoked.

  19. Report

  20. When simulation completes, a window will pop-up showing the final report.

  21. Move mouse over flower to see simulation report for flower in status panel at bottom of window.

  22. Save and load simulation with report by name.
